It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of 23-year-old Mary Frances Cronin, of New Maryland, NB, on April 29, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton. Mary is survived by her parents, Arthur and Michele Cronin of New Maryland, by her brother Raymund (Mackenzie McLeod) of Fort St. John, BC, by her boyfriend Brandon Sanford of Vancouver, BC, by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and by her many, many friends. All of us are devastated. Mary brightened every room she entered. She was unfailingly optimistic and full of life and joy.
An award- winning student at the University of New Brunswick, she was on the cusp of a remarkable career in her chosen field of Geodesy and Geomatic Engineering. A Dean’s List student for two and a half years at Saint Thomas University, she was the Keeper for the Women’s Tommies Soccer Team for three seasons, and a popular coach of girl’s soccer in Fredericton. She loved sports, and was a lifelong soccer player, spending years in the FDSA program. She also played women’s rugby with the UNB Varsity Reds, where she continued to display her constant enthusiasm, competitiveness, and passion for sport and her teammates. When she was on the field, she was a fierce competitor, when she was off, she was the best of friends. She was always generous with her time and talents, volunteering for numerous programs in Fredericton.
Mary loved life, and reveled in her friends and family. She would want to be remembered as fabulous, which she always was.
The family would like to thank the 911 dispatcher, EMTs, and the DECRH staff for their efforts, compassion, assistance, and empathy. We know they did everything they could.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Mary Cronin FHS Memorial Soccer Scholarship (E-transfer to dryan1166@gmail.com), to the STU Woman’s Soccer program (www.gotommies.ca/donate/adopt-a-tommie), or to the UNB Varsity Reds Women’s Rugby program (E-transfer to unbwrugby@gmail.com).
Masks are requested by the family if attending services. A Service in Celebration of Mary’s life will be held at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive, on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 2 pm. Services will be Live Streamed for those unable to attend in person.
