Obituary of Charlotte van de Poll

The family of Charlotte Dorothea Sophia van de Poll (van Kleef) is saddened to share news of her passing on Sunday, February 14, 2016. She is survived by her husband Henk Wouter (with whom she recently celebrated 56 years of marriage), son Robert (Catherine), daughter Marlien (Greg McKay) and grandchildren Katriena (partner Daniel) and Cody. She shared a special bond with her grandchildren and was so very proud of them. She is predeceased by her brother Rob and survived by brother Peter (Janneke) and sister Dory (Henk) in the Netherlands, as well as special nieces and nephews in Michigan and the Netherlands. She was born in Tjimahi, Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) on November 13, 1938. She spent her early childhood under harsh conditions in a Japanese concentration camp and this experience shaped her desire to survive, help, and live life to the fullest. Following the war the family moved to Hattem (the Netherlands) where she met Wout, her future husband. After graduating from nursing school in Utrecht, the Netherlands, she emigrated to Michigan with her family in 1959. Shortly thereafter she reconnected with Wout and they were married a few months later in Fredericton. Always together, they shared a life of travel and adventure (preferably by sailboat) or to accompany her geologist husband in his work.A founding member of Fredericton Designer Weavers, she was a regular participant at the Christmas Craft shows from the beginning. She loved the creative process, making things by hand, and had a natural understanding of the importance of design and colour. She had high expectations for all of us, and instilled in us the importance of being kind to others, helping those in need and sharing with the less fortunate, as these were her values. At Charlotte's request there will be no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to a charity of your choice.
