Life Legacy
William (Bill) Eldon LaPointe of Fredericton went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the York Care Centre, surrounded by his loving children. Bill was so looking forward to meeting Jesus and being reunited with his beloved wife, Faith, in heaven.
And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” Luke 23:43.
Born on August 1, 1926 in Marysville, he was the son of the late Alfred and Grace (Meehan) LaPointe.
A man of great integrity, Bill was known for his warmth, kindness and sense of humour. He always put others before himself. An animated storyteller, Bill always captivated his grandchildren with his funny anecdotes.
Bill was a founding member of The Gospelaires. He maintained this ministry and sang and travelled with the group throughout Canada, the Unites States, and as far as Jamaica, for over 50 years.
Professionally, his first employment was with the Marysville Cotton Mill and he then went on to be a tax audit supervisor with the provincial government for over 30 years. Always interested in politics, Bill served 12 years on the Marysville Town Council, including two terms as mayor, from 1967 to 1971.
For many years, Bill and his wife Faith enjoyed organizing yearly tours to gospel music conventions in the United States.
Through his involvement with music and the community, Bill received numerous awards throughout his lifetime.
Bill was a member of Journey Wesleyan Church. He was passionate about music and he loved to sing. He also enjoyed spending time at his cottage at Beulah Camp, gardening, fishing, swimming, and he was a sports enthusiast, playing baseball, hockey and basketball growing up.
Bill is survived by his children, Judy Seely (Jim) of Douglas, NB; Joel LaPointe (Ruth Pond) of Fredericton, NB; Janice McLaughlin (Jeep) of Fredericton, NB; Jeff LaPointe (Kim) of Calgary, AB; and Andy LaPointe (Brookee) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Jeana Daye (Ryan); Mitchell, Jordan (Tara) and Jesse LaPointe; Jana Jones (Mike) and Jacob McLaughlin; Benjamin, Matthew and Sarah LaPointe; Olivia and Graysen LaPointe; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew and Alexa Faith Daye; Reid William LaPointe and Max LaPointe; and William Jones; special friends Faith, Emily and Adam Day; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Faith, Bill was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Grace (Meehan) LaPointe; sisters, Joyce Roy, Opal Duncan and Barbara Blunston.
Visitation will take place at Journey Wesleyan Church on Sunday, August 23 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Journey Wesleyan Church, 131 Duncan Lane, on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Peter Thomas, Rev. Norm McDonald and Rev. Matthew Maxwell officiating. A private family interment will take place in the Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the York Foundation, the Alzheimer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or the charity of the donor’s choice.
