I was remembering this evening the wonderful singing of Bill LaPointe and the quartet, so decided I'd look for information online.
I note that he and my brother John passed away in the same year.
Only 2 of the Ripley family remain now, myself in Montreal, and my sister Ruth in Victoria.
Thanks for the memories.

My sympathy and sadness on the loss of Bill LaPointe, such a special person in the city. The Gospelaires performed at Pennfield United Baptist Church in the early 1960's. After that, I delighted in their musical success, as well as that of your family. People often ask if I am related to Bill. I tell them he and your family had all the talent. Our prayers go out to the entire LaPointe family. Even though we know that he is now whole in body and rejoicing with his Saviour, it is still very difficult to lose a dad/grandad. May you take comfort in the fact that you have not said goodbye, just so long for now. We have known you all for a very long time and have witnessed your great love for a great man, especially in the past few years when you saw that his every need was met. You loved and were loved.

Dear Lapointe family, I am one of thousands that your father has influenced over his lifetime. As a young child I remember going to concerts and listening to his music on records. For a time I worked at the Christian book store in Sussex and he would come in to pick up money and drop off more music. I always enjoyed talking to him and was always struck by his humility. He was a true servant and enjoyed sharing the gospel. I miss see seeing him and hearing his voice at Journey....even in his old age he could sing circles around anyone I know. Your Dad and Grampie was an amazing man of God. What a legacy he has left in his beautiful family. He will be missed by many. God bless you all during this time.

My husband and I will treasure our times with Bill as we saw him often at York Care. He always had a smile and thanked us for stopping by just to say "hi" on our walks. I used to tell him he was a kind man and he always would say, "I try to be." When my ladies fiddle group played at York, we always played a hymn for Bill and he would sing along. We will miss seeing him. When I was a little girl the Gospelaires played often at our church. They had a powerful sound and were loved by all. Bill LaPointe made a positive difference in my life. I am thankful for my times with him.

I was supposed shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Bill Lapointe. I remember him when I was very young and when I used to go to Olivet Weslyan church over on coronation Street in Marysville.
He and the gospel layers and traveled all over New Brunswick and in different parts of North America as I was told he and they were tremendous talents and wonderful gifts of God to those of us who love the old fashioned gospel music. My heartfelt sympathies, prayers, thoughts, and condolences. Go out to the surviving members of his family and to all who knew him and we're better because of his presence in their lives.

We have been and will continue to be forever grateful to Bill LaPointe for being a founding charter member of our church in Barker's Point (1951). We have cherished memories of those early years when LaPointes were a vital part of our congregation. Since then, we've always been delighted when Bill could return for Corbett visits, knowing our church has held a special place in his heart across these many years. Bill's life and ministries have truly been used of God to advance the kingdom! Today we salute our friend Bill and commend him to the Father's keeping. "Well done, good and faithful servant."
