Obituary of W. Douglas MacCallum
MacCallum, W. Douglas (Doug)
January 28, 1932 - July 13, 2015
This much loved husband to Betty (Symonds) and father to Susan (Thumwood) and Ruth (Woodworth) crossed life's finish line and stepped from time into eternity on Monday at Windsor Court.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4:7 Throughout his life, his unwavering faith in God anchored him, and provided the foundation for every relationship. His most cherished relationship was with his true love, Betty, and their marriage of nearly 61 years. As a husband, father, and grandfather, he radiated overflowing patience, kindness, love and keeping no record of wrongs. He truly was a friend to all. Doug's influence on a generation of students spanned 38 years, from 1951 to 1989, and included Bethany Bible College (Kingswood University), Devon School, and Fredericton High School. He was a teacher, and then moved to guidance, but his speciality was loving his students. He befriended, encouraged, rescued, prodded and praised exactly where needed, just at the right time.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Betty (Symonds); his daughters, Susan (Martin) Thumwood of Calgary, and Ruth (Stephen) Woodworth of Fredericton; grandchildren, Welby Thumwood, Devon Thumwood, Emily (Brandon) Ingraham, Melissa Woodworth, Rachel Woodworth, and Ellen Woodworth; siblings, Bob (Annette), Ken (Sheila), Bertha (Frank), Grace, Ross (Joan), and Gord (Jeanie) and their families, and many other extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Milford (Mac) and Lucy (Blakney) MacCallum; sister, Marian and brother in law, Don.
Our deepest and most sincere gratitude is extended to the loving care provided by each and every one at Windsor Court, and to Dr. Ian MacDonald, who recently retired. So many went far and beyond duty, and just loved him.
