Life Legacy
The passing of W. Ross Darling of McLeod Hill, NB, husband of Marie
(O’Connor) Darling, occurred on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on August 4, 1938 in Sudbury, ON, he was the son of the late W. Stanley and Eleanor (Brady) Darling.
In addition to his wife, Ross is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Hachey (Dennis) of Fredericton, NB; Mike Darling (Nancy) of Calgary, AB, Donald Darling (Patti) of Saint John, NB, Michael Green (Clare) of Perth, Australia and Chris Green of Vancouver, BC; ten grandchildren, Daniel, Andrew, Erin, Nick, Kathryn, Meghan, Mariah, Liam, Harrison and Stella; one great granddaughter, Evelyn; sister, Nancy Diamond of Oshawa, Ontario and her daughter Susan Diamond of Guelph, Ontario, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Fred Diamond.
Ross was born in Sudbury, Ontario. The family moved to Toronto in 1942 and then to Brockville. Ross attended the University of New Brunswick and Queens University in Kingston. He returned to Fredericton and taught in the Faculty of Business Administration for 32 years, retiring in 1998. He was a teacher, mentor and friend. He was immensely proud of his students and always interested to learn of their successes. Ross received a Certificate of Achievement from UNB in 1998. The Ross Darling Computer Lab was named after him in recognition of his role in the planning, development and operationalizing of this lab.
Ross’ philosophy of life was to live every day to the fullest and this he did with great aplomb. He was an avid fly fisherman, golfer and hunter. He was an accomplished home chef. He travelled extensively.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 5 to 8 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 2 pm with Father Monte Peters officiating. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, The Chalmers Hospital Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
