I met Betty 50 years ago when I moved from B.C. to Fredericton. Betty and I worked together and she tucked me under her motherly love from then on, even bringing me homemade treats. I moved away, but we kept in touch until the past couple of years. I did visit her once at her camp about 17 years ago. Because I’m going to New Brunswick in a few weeks I decided to see if I could possibly see her again. That is when I saw her obituary. She was such a kind woman and treated me like a daughter. She will forever be remembered by me. Got bless her soul.

Betty was a dear friend of my mum Betty Wilson at Windsor Court. They would go to activities together, and every night she would come into my mum’s room to pray & have a chat. When my mum had a tragic accident at Windsor Court on May 6 2023 , Ruth & Betty came to visit my mum as she laid dying in the hospital they would sing & pray which gave my sister Debbie & I great comfort as we were grieving. We loved Betty & she loved us . Now the two Betty’s are together.

Betty and Doug opened their home to me when I was in hospital in Fredericton as a child. I remember the warmth of their kitchen playing with the girls while Betty kept an eye, going to church where everyone was so kind, and especially outings in the park. It's been good to reconnect over the last few years and celebrate my mom and Betty's birthdays together on Grand Manan. There have been lots of stories and laughter and tears and the joy of being friends. I'll always remember Betty having to have 'another hug' because one was never enough. I'll remember her laugh, her quizzical smile, her love. I'll miss her.

Ross and I so much enjoyed our friendship with Betty and Doug while wintering at Wesleyan Village in Florida. They were a beautiful couple, loved by all who were blessed to call them "friends". Betty was a wonderful Christian role model and she will be greatly missed.

Dear Ruthie,
Mike and I extend our deepest condolences to you and your family for your tremendous loss. Betty was a lovely lady, always quick with a kind word and a smile. I so enjoyed bringing her coffee and hearing her sing on Tuesday mornings, as well as singing at my baptism on the beach this summer - what a blessing that was! I also will keep the sweetest memory of her holding hands with Susan while you sang and played the piano in our Seniors Connect gatherings. Your mum will be missed dearly!
With sympathy and prayers,
Suzanne

Dear Susan, Ruth, Fred, John and all family members: My sincere condolences on the passing of your loved one Betty. I have many memories throughout my lifetime of Betty and Doug. One year I had the privilege of traveling with Betty to the Wesleyan Women Int. Gen. Conference in Indiana. She was faithful in the service of The King. I will miss her at Beulah Camp. I'm so glad to have known Betty.

Betty & Doug were one of the greatest couples I've ever met. I spent 3 years boarding at their home in the late 60's. Betty was a great cook, and I thoroughly enjoyed the bagged lunches she prepared during my college days. Prayers for Ruth, Susan, and family are being made during this time of mourning. We rejoice that she is now united with loved ones who have gone before!

I remember all of the Symonds family and going to Sunday school and church when Gordon was pastor in Perth. My sympathy to all the family, as I know she will be dearly missed. Heaven has gained another angel. Cherish all the beautiful memories and may they give you comfort.
Sincerely Lorraine MacLeod ( Lunn)

Sending sincere condolences and love to Ruth, Susan and families. Betty and I met at Fredericton High School where she came to fill in for secretarial staff when needed. Doug was head of Guidance at the time. Betty was a wonderful friend and a joy to be with. Her sense of humor was wonderful - enjoyed by all. We continued to "stay in touch" over the years and until I moved from New Brunswick we enjoyed many lunches together but the last few years were maintained by telephone and letters.
No matter the time or circumstance we are never ready to lose a loved one. She will be missed by many.

My heart goes out to all of you Woodworths & Susan's family too. Betty was a great lady and a life long friend. I met Betty at FHS when I was just 19 years old. We worked in the office & shared many LOL moments. Many of these memories I still talk about to friends. It was such a joy to work with her. We continued to meet up for lunch long after retirement, or for a phone chat. always sharing a laugh & a hug. Treasure your memories❤. Doug is waiting for her.

Our deepest condolences to Susan, Ruthie & their families, as well as John, Fred and all the family. Our prayers are with each of you! Betty had a strong faith, and lived her life totally committed to her Lord, influencing many to follow Jesus!
One special memory Fred has was on a mission trip to Haiti; they were going up a mountain side on small horses (their feet could almost touch the ground) and Betty was very nervous; their guide kept saying “No problem, lady, no problem” which wasn’t too reassuring to Betty! She loved her Lord, missions and people! What a blessing & inspiration she was to all who knew her!! She was a very special friend!!

Susan and Ruth - as a child I remember spending time with your family…our parents were great friends which was a gift as a child to experience. Your mom and dad were very special people, fun to be around, kind, full of life experience and good memories. It was such a treat for me to see you both (although briefly) with your mom this summer enjoying ice cream outside the Happy Baker. I know Betty will be missed but her legacy will live on in both of you and your families.

I would not be able to think about church leaders or church friends without thinking of Betty. I remember her infectious laugh and smile, her kindness and empathy, and her willingness to always serve. I can hear her say 'oh Doug'... and laugh. GREATLY loved and appreciated. I know you will miss her greatly but know she and Doug are happy together. Love you so much.

Betty was a best friend to anyone at Winsor court ,but when Mum came in she was a mentor. Betty would encourage Mum to participate in activities even when Mum thought she couldn't go. Every night Betty would pray with Mum. We loved the prayer she would say over Mum and her family. When Mum went to the hospice, Betty was there praying and holding Mum's hand. It has been a privilege knowing her ! THANK YOU ! To Susan and Ruthie, thank you you sharing your beautiful Mum. Nancy Mckinley

When the WMS (Women's Missionary Society) was a force to be reckoned with in our circle of friends, Betty was a strong, devoted and productive leader. Her leadership accomplished much in the cause of the Kingdom for many years. She with Doug were friendly neighbors at the cottage at Beulah for decades. She had a distinctive, warm smile and laughter at many things she took pleasure in. The Symonds family has been held in high esteem for a long time; she added to that esteem in positive ways. She has surely heard "Well done, faithful servant." I look forward to where and when we will all be neighbors again, together in Heaven, forever. Sincere sympathy to Susan and Ruthie and their families.
