Mary was the best neighbour anyone could ask for. She even complimented my loud dog and shared stories of the dogs she was reminded of. I enjoyed singing her praises as a kind and inspiring human. Four generations of my family got to enjoy friendly waves and conversations from across the road - every interaction simple but full of kindness.

A wonderful lady and one of the neighborhood moms who always made her home feel like our own. She’d been away from Ross for too long and now they’re together again. Sincere condolences.

Sharon,Stephen. So sorry for your loss, Lynn and l were happy to have been your next door neighbours for over thirty years. I have many fond memories of Ross and Mary. One could have never had any better neighbours. Mary was always there with a bowl of soup or fresh baked cookies for me after Lynns illness. She will be always be remembered as one of the finest ladies I ever knew.

I was so sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. The last time I was in Fredericton Mary and I had a great phone conversation! We couldn’t visit because of a COVID lockdown.
Mary (and Ross) were wonderful neighbours on Cherry Avenue for many, many years! I remember the day they moved in next door! Their family was complete with the births of Stephan and Sharon. Many events were shared with the Davis and Cameron families…births, deaths, graduations, weddings, baptisms, and birthdays to name a few.
Sharon, Stephan, Karen and families, please accept our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time! May all your wonderful memories over the years bring you some peace and comfort.
With love, Pat (Davis) and Michael Carty and family.❤️

I'm so, so sorry to hear about Mary.
When I was a small child recently arrived from the UK with my Mum and Dad in the late 1960s, she took me under her wing and became 'Aunty Mary'. If she tired of my chatter she never let on and I have very happy memories of sitting on her back step in the sunshine shelling peas. She and 'Uncle Ross' helped us settle into MacFarlane Street and made us incredibly welcome. When we visited the area in the late 1980s she kindly hosted us and she and Ross ferried us around for a week, it was a lovely visit.
I had forgotten that her maiden name was Shields, am I right in remembering a Granny Shields?
My love and thoughts to all the family xxxx

I am Liz Fairfields father and I would like to back up everything she has said. In 1967 we were newly arrived from the UK and we couldn’t have had better neighbours than Ross & Mary. Mary in particular was a great help to my wife, Betty, pointing her in the right direction to all all the ways and means of settling smoothly into life in Canada and Nashwaaksis.
As far as we were concerned she was the epitomy of our experience of all Canadians, very helpful very kind and very generous with her time
I am glad she was a friend of mine
