Obituary of Maxine Annie Dobson

In her 87th year, Maxine Dobson, of New Maryland, NB passed away peacefully on Friday, July 22, 2022. She was born at home in Upper Caverhill, New Brunswick on February 14, 1935 to her parents Charles (1990) and Irma (Braun) McKay (1999).

She is predeceased by her loving husband, Charles "Sonny" Dobson; her sisters, Rona Campbell and Irene McKay; and sister-in-law, Darlene Dobson.  Maxine will be deeply missed by her only daughter, Jillian (Jody) Shealy of New Maryland; and her two beloved grandchildren, Celia "Lia" and Charlie. She is also survived by her three sisters, Marlene (Michael) MacBride, Frances (Keith) Scott, Virginia (Larry) Gibbons; her brother, Harold (Carolyn) McKay; and her brother-in-law, Gaius Dobson. She had a very special place in her heart for her numerous nieces and nephews and loved each and every one of them. 

Maxine was the oldest child born on a farm in Upper Caverhill.  She loved her farm life roots.  She moved to Fredericton to attend Business College. She made many wonderful friends during this time, many of whom she is still close with. She worked for many years as a secretary then transitioned to a stay-at-home mom. Maxine was a committed member of Journey Wesleyan Church for the last 65 years. She was actively involved in the New Maryland Bible study group for many years and loved her home and community. She loved her people, she loved Jesus, and to know her was to love her. Maxine spent the last 4 years living at Shannex and received wonderful care. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  

Arrangements have been entrusted to York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton. A Funeral Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 1 pm with Rev. Matthew Maxwell presiding. Burial will take place on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the Dorchester Rural Cemetery.  Donations in her memory would be appreciated towards Catons Island, a place she loved because her daughter and grandchildren love it.
