AITKEN, ELIZA GERALDINE

 

The passing of Eliza Geraldine Aitken of Fredericton, NB, occurred on Monday, June 13, 2022 at York Care Centre.  Born on September 28, 1944 in Minto, NBshe was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ellen (Agnew) Shirley.  Eliza was known as one of the Shirley girls from Minto, she moved to Ontario where she met her husband and started her family, returning to Fredericton in 1975.  She worked for the Daily Gleaner for  16 years, and then loved being an "Avon Lady".

 

Eliza  is lovingly survived by her husband of 55 years, Ronald  James Aitken; daughter, Carol Daine (Gerald) of Oromocto, NB;  son,  Chris Aitken (Cindy) of Halifax, NS; step daughters,  Lucy Lambert (Mike) of Powell  River, BC and Michelle Engle; grandchildren, Quinten Lake, Hannah Aitken and Blake Daine; many step grandchildren; sisters,  Jessie Vienneau and Isobel Barratt both of Minto, NB; aunt, Shirley Sands of Minto, NB; cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her step son, Ken Aitken; sisters, Kathleen “Kay”, Elva, Dorothy “Dot”,  Rita, Margaret “Peggy”,  Grace and Betty; brothers, Manfield, Robert “Bobby” and Kenny.


The Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 5 pm with The Rev'd Rob Langmaid officiating.  For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Birch Grove at York Care Centre or the charity of the donor’s choice.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
