Obituary of Doreen Myrtle Wilson

Please share a memory of Doreen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Doreen (Smith) Wilson on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at York Care Centre.  She was born on April 1, 1936 in Waterborough, NB, the daughter of the late Douglas and Eileen (Blakney) Smith.

In her early years, Doreen lived in Devon and Nashwaaksis.  In 1955, Doreen married the love of her life, Don.  She worked in banking for several years, then from home as a wife, mother, and helping out in the family business.  Doreen was a dedicated member of the Brunswick Street Baptist Church.  She was one of the founding members of the New Life Ministry, working with young mothers in this program for ten years.  She was a faithful member of her Tuesday Morning and Sunday Night Prayer Groups.  Doreen opened her home for thirteen years as a host family for International Students.  Everyone was treated as if they were her own children. She created friendships that lasted a lifetime.  In later years, she travelled to several Asian countries to visit her former students.  She was greeted with open arms.  Doreen loved to travel.  She and Don spent many winters in Florida enjoying the warm sunshine.  She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.  She will be remembered for her complete devotion to her Lord, family, friends and church.  Doreen was an inspiration to all who knew her!

Doreen is survived by her devoted husband, Don; beloved daughter, Kim Rickard (Tim) and son, Chris Wilson (Deidre) all of Fredericton, NB; six grandchildren, Dan Rickard (Courtney), Kathleen Curtis (Matt MacVicar), Jamie Rickard (Kelsey Schroeder), Jacob and Samuel Wilson, Kyle Brewer; four great grandchildren, Marlee, Renna, Brody and Colby Rickard; devoted brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Linda Smith; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.  The Funeral Service will take place at Brunswick Street Baptist Church on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 2 pm with Rev. Greg Geldart officiating.  Pallbearers for the service will be Tim, Dan and Jamie Rickard; Jacob, Sam and Tim Wilson; Honourary Pallbearers are Doug Ashfield, Charlie Colwell, Ron McMullan, Greg Cook, Bob Reid and Rod Thompson. A private family interment will take place later.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Doreen’s memory can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes of Canada or the charity of the donor’s choice.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
