Obituary of Marty Dawn Larsen

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our younger brother, Marty Dawn Larsen, of Princess Park, Grand Lake, on Friday, May 6, 2022, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Marty was born in Fredericton on March 14, 1960, the youngest son of the late Mary (Hovey) Larsen and John Larsen.

He will be greatly missed by his two sisters; Nirah Sproul (late Lloyd) and Carol (Brian) Ashton, several nieces and nephews; cousins; a special “centurion” Aunt Nita and uncles, and a special sister; Dawn Hicks. Besides his parents, Marty was predeceased by a brother; Gerald (Jake) Larsen, brother-in-law; Lloyd Sproul and nephew; Lloyd Ronald Sproul.

Marty was an avid curler and a member of the Gladstone Curling Club in Fredericton Junction until his health declined. However, he enjoyed attending or watching Bonspiels on Television. Another passion of his was hockey, being a very loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fan, he never missed watching a game. Following in his father’s footsteps, he took up playing the fiddle at an early age followed by the guitar and immensely enjoyed jamming with cousins and friends.

Marty was a faithful employee of TrueFoam for thirty years where he was employed as maintenance manager using his expertise of “fixing things”.  He will also be remembered for his Christmas baking of Butter Tarts and Peanut Butter Balls which he shared with his coworkers.  The Nashwaak River and his camp occupied his weekends for many years where he spent his time enjoying the beautiful river with his fishing pole and his dog Rudy. Marty spent the last few years at Princess Park where he enjoyed the company of many new friends.

A memorial service and reception will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Saturday, May 14^th at 2 p.m.  Please wear a mask and come join us.
