I am sorry to learn of Lee's passing. He was fortunate to have you, Alice, and your family with him at home at that time, and I am sure you will miss him very much. I didn't know that he was ordained as a priest, that was a surprise. He certainly enjoyed a full life, with many different experiences. My thoughts are with you, Alice, and your family.

Dear Alice and Family:
We would like to express sincere condolences to you at this difficult time. I became acquainted with Lee while you and your family were living in the Sussex area. He was a very kind-hearted man and a great story-teller. Mom always enjoyed the articles in the Record. I used to read them to her once her eyesight failed. I hope that friends and family and the wonderful memories that you have provide comfort to you. Take care.

Our condolences to the Whitney family on your great loss. I have thought of you often over the years and look back at the times you shared with the community of Highfield, your neighbours and church family. Rev. Whitney officiated along with Rev. Dysart at our wedding almost 39 years ago... time passes so quickly. I am thankful I was able to briefly speak to Rev. Whitney at his book launch in Sussex a few years back, a great teller of stories. May your years of memories bring you comfort in the days ahead.

I'm so sorry to hear of Lee's death. The friendship of you both at a rather lonely time in my life meant a lot to me, and Lee's mentoring when I began my Old English studies was a great help. I still treasure the EETS Beowulf facsimile he gave me then. Chris and I are thinking of you, Alice, and your family, at this difficult time. ~ Krista Johansen

It made me so sad to hear of Lee’s passing. Ken thought the world of him, as a unique, kind, funny and interesting person. They shared a lot including the old Keirstead farm. I only wish they’d gotten to know each other earlier in their lives. Ken loved him. I hope they are somewhere together now chatting about the many things that fascinated them. I have often retold Lees’s story of Beowulf and the US Customs.

I met Lee and Alice several years ago through the Sussex Artists Co-Op and enjoyed engaging in conversations about topics that could put many to sleep, but which had me on the edge of my seat. An extremely intelligent man who put me in mind of my Step-Dad who passed away in ‘96. My wife, Angela, reminded me that Lee showed her how to dowse for water using a pendulum. He obviously taught her well as she used that skill two years ago, during the drought, to locate an excellent source of water on our farm.
Alice and family, we are so sorry for your loss. Lee will definitely be missed by many.

So many memories of his kindnesses, modesty even as he expressed his brilliant mind, great sense of humour, his love of magnificent music, and the opera and his library and his farm and most importantly his family and his keen observations and wondrous storytelling - all this and so much more come to mind as I remember Lee Whitney. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have made his acquaintance or counted him as a great friend. My deepest sympathy to his multigenerational family.
