Obituary of Maarten Johannes van Oord

Maarten Johannes van Oord (November 13, 1956 – August 17, 2021) Child of God

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of husband, father, Opa and brother - Maarten. With thankful hearts we celebrate that he is with his Father in Heaven.

Maarten is survived by his wife Caroline; his children: Joas and Lisa, Reynold and Corey, Mark and Amanda, Renata and Douglas, and Lennard and Annalise; his grandchildren: Anishka, Oliver, Cynthia, Amelia, Nora, Silas, Hugo, Hendrik and Hannah. Furthermore, he is survived by a large extended family here in Canada, in the Netherlands, and in Australia.

Maarten loved his family, working on the farm, drinking coffee with his many friends and acquaintances, serving his church and farming communities, and maintaining and driving his tractors. He will be remembered for his wisdom, his humility, his generosity, his humour and his genuine care for his neighbor. Shortly before his passing, he was finally able to enjoy the fruit of his efforts from his own orchard, in the form of a ripe peach. Caroline was the love of Maarten’s life, he was proud of his children and loved being Opa to his grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Shelly, Lyndsay, Rebecca and Sheri from Extra Mural for their extraordinary care as well as the compassionate doctors of the Palliative Care Team.

In honour of Maarten’s love of community, donations may be made to the Community Kitchen or in honour of his love for nature, donations may be made to the Nature Trust of New Brunswick.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00  PM.  The funeral will take place at Fredericton Christian Reformed Church, 121 McAdam Avenue, Fredericton, NB on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 1:30 pm with Pastor Peter Beckwith and Pastor Dan Hoogland officiating. For those that are able please wear a mask for the visitation and funeral service, due to Covid-19.   A private interment will take place in Kingsclear Kilburn Community Cemetery.
