Hi Ruth,
This is Kim Palmer. Today May 5th 2023 i was visiting Mark Carmondy and asked if he had heard from Derrick . He informed me that Derrick had passed 2 years ago . I was shocked and without words as i was not aware you had moved back here . My deepest condolences to you and your family . His mom and my mom were in the hospital having us at the same time and we lived side by side .He was with me when his dad died . I am so sad i didn't see him before he died . I will never forget him . We were band mates and close friends . RIP Derrick. We will meet again . Kim

Ruth,
I doubt that you would ever remember me but I had the pleasure to work with Derrick in Inuvik. He was possibly the best at what he did (pumpman) across the NTCL company. He was all about pumping or music. He showed me the ropes and each time I worked with him I learned. I reached out to him via social media several times and as always — he was gracious and accommodating. Derrick will remain one of the better memories of my time in the Arctic. Blessings and comfort to you and your family. Peter & Suzi Gabany – Port Hope, ON

Ruth and family: It has been many years since we last met in person (1982) but I remember with much happiness the times that you and Derrick welcomed me into your home in Inuvik. I was a still a wet-behind-the-ears kid then yet Derrick always treated me with courtesy and respect. I will always remember the smirk that would play on the corner of his smile when he caught me doing something unusually stupid! My condolences to you and the family and hope to meet again in person.

Ruth and family: My condolences on Derrick's passing. I had the distinct pleasure of working with Derrick for over twenty years at NTCL. He was an intelligent problem solver, a great work colleague, and an encyclopedia of rock music. We kept in touch since NTCL and I always enjoyed our conversations and lunches. He will be missed by his many friends as well as your family.

Ruth & family, my sincere condolences on Derrick's passing. Derrick was an outstanding gentleman and I was very fortunate to have worked with him on many marine transportation initiatives. Enjoying suppers with Derrick and hearing his recollections on the history and development of marine transportation in the NWT and the Western and Eastern Arctic are truly great memories. Respected and admired by all his colleagues, a man of consummate ability and talent.

Thank you Rick and Joanne. Much love, Sarah Ruth and boys.
Just wanted to add this Rick, Derrick always told me that he owes you everything for the chance at NTCL in Management, He says he then had to go to Edmonton for the Interview. with Paul Prevaile, We often think about that, Derrick went down to Edmonton with Black leather Jacket, Cowboy boots, lol!! He was hired then, Derrick had a lot of respect for Paul, I am sure sure it was not his attire that got him hired,
