Obituary of Carolyn Marie Smith
SMITH, Carolyn Marie (nee Savage)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Marie Smith on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the home of her daughter and son in law, surrounded by love, near and far. Mum was the cherished wife of the late William Smith.
Mum was born Feb. 4, 1927 in Port Elgin NB to the late Edward and Catherine (Noonan) Savage and was raised in Fredericton. She married our Dad in 1946 and together they embarked upon a journey lasting 59 years. Throughout the formidable time of caring for family, she also worked as a sales associate at Simpson Sears and Creaghan’s. Taking time to enjoy curling and bridge, while becoming a very accomplished bridge player.
She was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony's Parish for over 60 years, where she not only celebrated her faith but also dedicated her time to many committees and activities, resulting in fulfilling and lifelong friendships.
With a family spread far and wide, the beacon of the Smith family was always Mum and Dad's home, where warmth and love frequently welcomed friends and family. Along with a cup of tea and a cookie, Mum lent her ear and shared much heartfelt wisdom. In raising a large family, it was evident that love, compassion, responsibility, and faith in God were a cornerstone of her life. Her quick wit was forever present and accompanied with her sweet smile, was enjoyed by all who knew her.
Mum was a devoted mother to (the late) Carolyn Pottier (Roy); Doug of Ottawa, Robert, Patrick (Gisele), Brian (Clara) all of Fredericton, Keith of Ottawa, and daughter Sharon Anne Forrest (Andrew) of Fredericton. Doting grandmother to Angela Bourgeios, Adam Pottier, Shawn Smith, Erin Kumar, Jason Smith, Robyn Forbes, Amber Dowling, Mark Smith, Corey Smith, Shane Smith, Kelly Smith, Amy Forrest and Barry Forrest. Great grandchildren, Andrew, Briella, Evangeline, Eli, Emma, Carter, Max, Maxine and Laurent. Step Great Grandmother to Jocelyn, Jordyn and Kaitlyn.
Mum is survived by her brother Bill Savage of California. Predeceased by her brother Raymond Savage and sisters Dorothy Atkins and Louise Noble Johnson. Also survived by many, near and dear to her heart, nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Mass will take place at St. Anthony's Church, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 2 pm with Father Maria Arokiam Chinnapan officiating. The service can be watched via york Funeral Home's (Facebook page). Interment will take place in Hermitiage Cemetery.
