Obituary of Ann Chamberlain Skinner
Ann (née Morrison) Skinner. Born 39-09-19. Deceased 20-12-20
Sunday is a day of rest. As so, Ann Skinner (née Morrison), with her beautiful radiant soul, and with amazing grace, took her final rest on 20-12-20 at 81 years of age. Following a valiant effort and with her youngest daughter by her side, she left this earthly realm, ready to reunite with her one true love in a beautiful peaceful place of love and light.
“Jesus, in praying to his father says: ‘Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am…’ and we naturally pray that those we love be with us where we are — but Jesus has prayed that we would be with him where he is — in heaven.”
Predeceased by our Dad, who Mum loved fondly and missed dearly. Our Mother, now a guardian angel, will remind us of her presence in quirky ways.
A fiercely proud matriarch of the Skinner, Morrison and Ferguson clans, she loved her family around the world and stayed connected via social media. Survived by three daughters, two in the Ottawa area, Shona Fleming (m. Gary), Sandra Wilson (m. John) and in Fredericton, Sheena Skinner (m. Antonio Heredia). Also, her six loving grandchildren, Iain (Lili Nguyen) and Megan (Lee Carrier) Fleming, Rachel (m. Kenny Sisson) and Jake Wilson, Ana Mar and Niko Heredia Skinner. She was ever-delighted to see her daughters and grandchildren succeed in their endeavours and inspired those she loved to be their best.
Born in Scotland, to John Morrison and Rachel (née Ferguson), and raised in a family of ministers of the Free Church of Scotland. Growing up on the west coast, Ann was the last of three siblings, predeceased by her elder brother, Donny who resided in Australia and her younger brother, Finlay.
Ann was survived by five nieces and nephews: Alistair McEwan, Kenneth McEwan, Fiona Morrison, Andrew Morrison and Laura Darnborough Semaniuk, and nine grand nieces and nephews.
Smart, yet humble in nature, Mum studied medical lab technology in Paisley and she eventually met our father. Shortly after their wedding, our parents immigrated to Ontario. Spending many years in Cobourg and moving throughout North America, Mum completed further studies, and tried various entrepreneurial careers including creating one of the first consignment sales stores in Moncton and retiring from real estate sales in Fredericton.
Pretty in pink or blue and cheery, with a warm-hearted disposition and ready smile, ‘The Gran A’ was known to be giving, kind, funny and sophisticated. Wise and a life-long learner, with an avid love of reading, she enjoyed beauties of nature and walking on the shore. Some of her favourite things — butterflies, cardinals, puffins, seashores, humming birds, carnations, any shade of blue, sunsets, sailing, bagpipes, chocolate and decadent desserts, to name a few.
Mum loved to travel and was thrilled to have a trip to Spain last January with her three daughters and to reunite with three of her Ferguson cousins and their spouses in Nerja. She appreciated retreats away with any or all of her three daughters and families and she especially enjoyed lounging at their homes to be amongst their activities. Gran A loved all people, was a great conversationalist and she felt very lucky to have wonderful, loving caring friends. She loved to encourage fun with a sparkle in her eyes.
To our wee Mum — Slàinte mhath (cheers) in honour of such a beautiful lady and may you rest in heavenly peace.
Sincere thanks to the doctors and medical team and ICU staff at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital who supported Mum’s care.
