Obituary of Franklyn MacLoon

The passing of Franklyn “Frank” Chubb MacLoon of McLeod Hill, NB, husband of Joyce Mary (Henry) MacLoon occurred on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at his home. Born on June 8, 1927 in Chatham, NB, he was the son of the late Walter “Chubb” and Lily (West) MacLoon. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church. Frank MacLoon was a man of many virtues. He was well known for his positive attitude and problem solving talent whether in the workplace, for his family or within the community. He started working with NB Power in 1956, retiring in 1990 as President. Among his volunteer activities he was a Charter Member of the Nashwaaksis Y’s Men’s Club and the Nashwaaksis Recreation Council. He was very involved with the Big Brothers Association. He also coached and organized baseball and hockey (both boys and girls) from the 1950’s to the 1990’s. After he retired, he devoted much of his time to the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum (ACAM) in Halifax, NS serving as Chair of the Board, lobbying for funding, and overseeing the construction of the new wing of the Museum. He was the project leader in the restoration of a crashed WWII Grumman Avenger which was accomplished with a very special team of local retirees. The plane is now displayed at ACAM. He also spent many years restoring his beloved 1942 Harley Davidson. He received the Fredericton Distinguished Citizen Award in 1981 as well as numerous sports related awards, all of which he accepted with great humility and even reluctance. He was a generous and cheerful spirit. He invested a great amount of time and energy into community efforts; not for the recognition. He always said “it’s all for the kids”. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. For nearly 59 years, he was married to Joyce, the love of his life. Together they enjoyed square dancing, traveling, camping and the love of their family, who meant everything to him. He most enjoyed gathering with the family for Saturday morning breakfasts and celebrating special occasions. He was a regular spectator at all activities for his children (even well into their adult years) and grandchildren as they participated in their sports and musical activities. Besides his wife, Frank is survived by his children, Chris MacLoon Power, Debbie MacLoon-Agnew (Allan) both of Fredericton, Peter MacLoon (Brenda) of McLeod Hill and Alan MacLoon (Stacie) of Yoho Lake; five grandchildren, Ben Power, Scott and Sean Agnew, Sarah MacLoon, and Cody MacLoon; niece, Cathy LaRochelle; nephew, Stephen Henry; constant companion, his Sheltie, “Paige”. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Jean MacLoon; son-in-law, Mike Power; brother-in-law, Alan Henry. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Friday, May 10, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 2 pm with Canon Bill MacMullin officiating. Interment will take place in the St. John the Evangelist Cemetery. Reception will follow in the church hall. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Nashwaaksis Y’s Men’s Club, St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church Building Fund or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
