Obituary of Esther Shewciw
It is with great sadness that the family of Esther Shewciw announces her death, surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on February 27, 1941 in Weaver Siding, NB, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Mabel (Tucker) Colford. Esther moved to Fredericton, NB, where she graduated from Business College. Esther began her career with the RCMP, later transferring to a division in Toronto where she met her husband of 43 years, best friend and soul mate, Peter. After living several years in Lethbridge, AB, they retired in 1999 before moving back to Fredericton to enjoy their retirement. Prior to her retirement she enjoyed camping, having enjoyed many vacations exploring North America in “the motor home”. Afterward, she enjoyed the simple things in life and continued to travel less frequently.
Esther will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Peter Shewciw; sisters, Mary Colford and Bernice O’Keefe; brothers, Vincent (Peggy) Colford, Burton Colford, Robert (Myrtle) Colford and Simon (Lorna) Colford; brothers in law, Walter Merrill, Alden Jones, Joe Shewciw and Tony Shewciw; sisters in law, Olga (Joe) Rushinko and Lavina-Jean Colford; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Esther was predeceased by her sisters, Hilda Merrill, Elizabeth “Betty” Robichaud and Louise Jones; brothers, John Colford and Bernard Colford; brothers in law, Michael O’Keefe, Charles “Ned” Robichaud, Stanley Shewciw, Fred Shewciw; sisters in law, Theresa Burns and Mary Shewciw.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 4-7 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Theresa’s Parish on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11 am with Father John Jennings as celebrant. Interment will take place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later date.
