Obituary of Ronald Burnett
It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald Burnett (Lincoln, New Brunswick) announces his passing, surrounded by loved ones, on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Palliative Care Unit, Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, New Brunswick. Ron was born on November 17, 1926, the son of William John and Sarah (Sawyer) Burnett in Camberwell, London, England.
Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Fay (Weismann-Seamans); sons, Terry, Derek; stepson, Franz Weismann (Lise); grandchildren, Elaine and Alexander (Weismann), Abigail (Burnett) and brother, Dennis Burnett (Molly) of Egham, Surrey, England as well as nieces, nephews, and friends. Ron was predeceased by his first wife, Doris May (Clark); siblings, Bill, Sidney, Flossie, Sadie, Albie, and Leslie.
Prior to his retirement Ron spent 8 years in the Royal Horse Guards (Household Cavalry), four years of which were spent in the B.A.O.R (British Army on the Rhine), Hanover, Germany. He worked many years as a self-employed building contractor and as a Goods-In Manager for a food wholesaler. Ron was a keen sportsman, playing semi-professional football (soccer), and during his time in the army won many cups and medals for athletic achievements. He was for a long time involved in the Scouting movement in the UK. After retirement, Ron immigrated to Canada where he spent his remaining years with trips to England as time and health permitted. Being wheelchair-bound due to a serious illness in 1992, he spent many hours crafting with wood.
Visitation will take place at St. George Funeral Home and Crematorium, 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 1 – 3 pm followed by a Funeral Service at 3 pm in the Gary E. Waycott Chapel with Rev. Darren Millett officiating. Interment will take place in St. George Rural Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Chalmers Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care Unit).
