It is July 6, 2014 and I had been discussing my wife, Liz's and my life in Cambridge in 1975-76. I thought I would google my old colleague and good friend , Don, and to my shock found hid obituary.
We became friends as members of queens college where our mail would routinely get mixed up. Don and Lesley vs. David and Liz!!!
We had many happy times in various pubs, with Don pontificating on some far fetched legal theory and Lesley urging him to "get to the point Don".
Lesley, Iliz and I are so sorry for your loss. Even though we've lost touch over the years, our friendship - and memories of an earlier time , - remain.

Professor Donald Fleming was a wonderful man who did a great service to his students and to the law community. He seemed above all else a sincere, just and loving person who clearly cherished his family and his friends which I respected most of all. His spirit is something I think many of us will remember with great fondness and will miss, no doubt, but it is also something than I hope and believe will carry on, given the impact he made. My condolences to all of his friends and family.

Dear Lesley,
Please accept our sincere condolences. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have great memories of our visits to your home, on pizza nights and one very memorable and warm Christmas with a lot of my Dutch friends. You and Don knew how to make us comfortable far away from home. I remember our drive from Montreal to Fredericton which allowed us to get around on a low budget. Thank you both for these beautiful memories. My thoughts often go out to you and I wish you all the strength and courage to continue on this path called life. If you are ever near Ottawa, please contact us and drop by for a visit. Sincerely, Yvonne and Nasser

I'm deeply saddened to read of Don's passing. Rebecca and I cherish the memories (has it really been 20 years?) of the warm embrace by the Fleming household of our young family during our five years in Fredericton, and the lively and stimulating conversation at "Pizza Night in Canada" on Fridays. We have had good intentions of visiting, but for one reason or another nothing has come of it. I'm really heartbroken that it's too late to see Don again. I'm very sorry, Lesley.

Professor Fleming taught me International Law and Int'l Business Law and supervised my in 3rd year while completing the Jessup moot. He also supported my application to the Office of the Judge Advocate General. I will forever be thankful for his mentorship and guidance. He certainly made his mark on UNB Law and on me.
My thoughts are with his colleagues, friends and his wife Leslie. May you find comfort in the knowledge that Prof Fleming impacted so many in such positive ways at this difficult time.

Dear Leslie,
I was saddened to hear this news.
I have always treasured first meeting Don as a student-competitor at the 1996 Canadian Jessup.
As I treasured several successive Jessup moots when I coached a team at McGill.
My clearest memory however, comes from sharing a meal with both you and Don when you passed through Montreal some years ago.
I can still remember him smiling as we raised a glass together.

Dear Lesley,
I first met Don in the mid-70's at a UWO Jessup Moot Competition, and it was a combination of the evident pride he had in his students' accomplishments and his panache as 'host'of the table where I dined together with the UNB Team at the close of the competition - including post-prandial drinks and cigars all around - that sold me on UNB Law as a School to consider in my own desire to join the Academy. And a few years later, I did just that.
We were colleagues for over thirty years, shared triumphs and defeats in the never-ending politics of University life, but most of all the challenges and joys of teaching several generations of students. All my sympathies go out to you, Lesley. Tom.

Don was a great mentor and friend. We worked together on a few projects when I was at the Atlantic Human Rights Centre. Despite the fact I wasn't a law student, he took an interest in my political science studies and always provided fantastic advice. We would meet frequently over coffee at the James Dunn Hall Tim Horton's and plot St. Thomas' eventual annexation of Ludlow Hall. I'll miss his insight and his dry sarcasm.

As one of Don's students (Class of '95), I was lucky enough to have him as both a professor and coach for the Jessup.
