Obituary of Wardlow Reginald Bailey
WARDLOW REGINALD FREDERICK BAILEY
August 5, 1917 – February 2, 2013
Daddy passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the age of 95, following a short period of failing health.
In his younger days he worked on the Bailey farm, where he was born, at the corner of Sunset Drive and Bailey Avenue in Fredericton, NB. His dad raised cattle and operated a milk route for many years serving the citizens of the north and south side. When the milk business was sold to Thistle Dairy, Daddy was hired by the dairy. Showing great skills in the electronic field from a very young age, he worked as a radio repairman for New Way Furniture. When the first TV station came on the air he was handed some books by his employer and taught himself how to repair TV’s. He retired from his own business ‘Ward Bailey Radio and TV Repair’, but continued to ‘fix’ things until the day he went into hospital. He believed that all things were repairable!
He is survived by his daughter, Jeanie (Vince) Whitehead, a grandson, Brad (Jodi) Whitehead of Charlottetown, PE, a brother, Claude Bailey of Nasonworth, NB as well as nieces, Joan Powell of Ottawa, ON, Carlene (Al) Everett of Toronto, ON, Di Pullam (Rod) of Pierrefonds, QC and Pat Meredith (Jane) of Westmount, QC. He is also survived through marriage by a nephew, Bud (Zeta) Sherwood of Salisbury, NB and a niece, Barb (Ray) Garrity of Maugerville, NB, nieces, Heather (Don) Bailey of Fredericton and Florida, Sonia (John) Requate of Linden, AB and Cynthia Bailey of Montreal, QC; niece, Angela McKay and nephew, William Bailey also survive him. He was predeceased by his parents, Osborne and Gertrude Bailey, grandparents, William and Annie Bailey, his wife, Nellie Bailey (2003), sisters, Elaine Everett (Carl), Arlene Meredith (George), a brother, Bill Bailey (Irene).
Many thanks to Daddy’s family physician Dr Jacques Beland, who made numerous calls to the home; to WeCare for providing homemakers over the years, Yarrow, Mike and Deana as well as Fallon and Connie; to his neighbours Donald, Herb, Blair and Laurin; to the staff of 3SW; to 3E Palliative Care, Dr Gowan and the PC Team for his wonderful ‘end of life’ care.
