Obituary of Florence Stickles

Stickles, Florence Biles The peaceful passing of Florence Biles Stickles of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Albert Stickles, occurred on Monday, January 28, 2013 at York Care Centre, with family by her side. Born on September 27, 1911 in St. Anthony, NL, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Jessie (Simms) Biles. Florence immigrated to Canada with her family in 1918, making Nashwaaksis her home for 95 years. Florence began working at the Metropolitan Store, before becoming a Practical Nurse, working in the community and the City Home. She retired from York Manor Nursing Home in 1976. Florence served as a licensed minister with the United Pentecostal Church International, receiving her fifty years service award in 2012. She was a teacher at the United Pentecostal Bible Institute for fifteen years, remembered for her classes in Life of Christ and her instruction in etiquette. She was a gifted speaker and pianist, and a faithful member of her local church. In later years, she was a member of Sunset Church. Florence was an avid reader and a lifelong student, a mentor to many, a musician, and a seamstress. She enjoyed travelling, returning to visit her beloved Newfoundland, wintering in Florida and Arizona, and making a trip-of-a-lifetime to the Holy Land. Florence is survived her daughter, Darlene Price; grandsons, Rev. William Price (Cindy) of Montreal, QC, Rev. Thomas Price (Karla) of Hampton, NB and Albert Price (Melanie) of Halifax, NS; great grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Natasha, Rebecca, Anna, Sarah and Noah; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband of fifty eight years, she was predeceased by her son, David Stickles; great granddaughter, Heidi Price; sisters, M. Pearl, Margaret Biles and Madeline Staples; brothers, William H., Thomas H. and Norman John Biles; son-in-law, Alvin Price. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Sunset Church on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 2 pm with Rev. Joseph Beesley officiating. Interment will take place in Douglas Rural Cemetery in the spring. For those who wish, remembrance may be made to the Northeast Christian College or the charity of the donor’s choice.
