Obituary of Donald Wilson
Donald Aitken Wilson of Fredericton, NB, husband of Bertha (Lyons) Wilson passed away peacefully on Friday, January 25, 2013 at home. Born on September 3, 1928 in McNamee, NB, he was the son of the late John A. and Susie (Clark) Wilson. He was a self employed woods worker, until he joined the army in 1955. His army career took him to many places including, BC, ON, Germany, Egypt and NB. After leaving the forces, Don worked for the Province of NB, Department of Supply and Services. Don was an avid ball player for over 65 years, he also enjoyed curling, and after retiring from ball at the age of 75 years, he picked up the golf clubs and joined his son at another sport that he fell in love with. He devoted many hours following his grandchildren to the ball fields, hockey rinks and golf courses or whatever activity they were a part of, he was there to support them. Ump(ie) as he was known by his immediate family was tremendously respected by his family and was a big part of their lives. He will be sadly missed by all and especially by his son Don who has been even a bigger part of his life over the past year.
In addition to his wife, Don leaves behind his son, Donald (Wanda) Wilson of Minto, NB; daughter, Ruth Ann (Don) Simpson of Surrey, BC; one granddaughter, Jolynn Wilson (Paul Pollari) of Quispamsis, NB; four grandsons, Mark Clark of Fredericton, NB, Donald “Jody” (Danielle) Wilson of Hampton, NB and Jacob and Michelle Wilson of Moncton, NB; eight great grandchildren, Kiersten Clark, Scarlett and Sadie Wilson, Rebekah and Brayden London, Matti Pollari, Liam Aitken and Karr Wilson; sister, Joyce (Frank) Briggs of Mississauga, ON; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Eileen (Clark) Canney; infant son, Gary Bruce; granddaughter, Jennifer Simpson; sisters, Jean Wilson and Glenna Smith and brother, Jack Wilson.
In keeping with Don’s wishes there will be no funeral service. A Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Monday, January 28, 2013 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Anglican Cemetery at a later date. No flowers by request, remembrances may be made to the ALS Society of New Brunswick – Equipment Fund, Canadian Red Cross, Easter Seals, Stan Cassidy or the charity of the donor’s choice.
