Obituary of John Barrett

John James Barrett May 15, 1947 – December 14, 2012 “Come,” said the Lord, “your work here is done,” so with loved ones by his side John left this life peacefully at home on December 14, 2012. John is survived by his wife, Nancy Feeney Barrett of Fredericton, NB; children, Greg Barrett and Kelly Barrett (Brian Jolicoeur) all of Fredericton, NB; stepdaughters, Patricia Jordan of Toronto, ON and Heather (Jordan) Keats (Andrew) of Fredericton, NB; his sister, Sister Sandra Barrett, SCIC of Saint John, NB; grandchildren, Alysha, Brandon and Shayna Barrett, Alexander Jordan, William, Emily Pearl and Jack Keats, Megan and Brendan Jolicoeur all of Fredericton; nephews, Jason and Matthew MacDonald and cousins. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Anne (MCCafferty) Barrett; son, Michael Barrett and sister, Barbara MacDonald. John was born and grew up in Moncton, NB, graduating from Harrison Trimble High School in 1965. He then attended St. Thomas University, graduating in 1969 and went on to receive a law degree from UNB in 1972. John practiced law in Fredericton for eight years and then accepted a position with the Federal Government where he worked for over 31 years, ending his career as the Director of Operations for Citizenship and Immigration Canada in New Brunswick, a job he truly loved and believed in. Over the years John was involved in several organizations including CHIMO, Birthright, York Credit Union and the Knights of Columbus. John and Nancy enjoyed a magical love affair. Those who were privileged enough to be touched by their love will forever remember the two walking hand in hand through life. They created many beautiful memories through their interests of gardening, walking, biking, golfing, traveling and spending precious time with family and friends. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 12 noon with Father John Jennings as celebrant. Reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in Hermitage Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Newmarket Cemetery Fund, Fredericton Emergency Shelter or the charity of donor’s choice.
