Obituary of Harry Gilbey

Peacefully at his home in Keswick Ridge, NB, Harry Perley Gilbey passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the age of 94. Born in Burtts Corner, NB on April 3, 1918, he was the son of the late Thomas Freeman and Rena Gilbey (Foster). He was the loving husband of the late Dorothy Margaret Gilbey (Love). Survived by six children; Earl Gilbey (Sandra) Keswick Ridge, Paula Biksa (Victor) Toronto, Laurence Gilbey (Beverlie) Fredericton, Margeret Gilbey-Hart (John) Toronto, Heather Tusiuk (George) Mississauga, Peter Gilbey (Janet) Halifax. He will be sadly missed by seven grandchildren; Lisa and Graham Gilbey, Andrew Biksa, Timothy Gilbey, Rebecca and Caroline Tusiuk and Amanda Hart and one great granddaughter Saena Gilbey. Harry is survived by his sister, Gloria Haines and predeceased by a sister, Estella Chown. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a brother-in-law, Bill Love, of Montreal. Harry enjoyed his long life and took great interest and pleasure in his family and the community in which he lived. He was a member of the Keswick Ridge United Church. Retiring from a long career as a building contractor, he also had an interest in politics and served on many boards and committees. His knowledge of local history was encyclopedic and he enjoyed relating to others all that he knew of the past. He touched many lives and created many memories. At Harry’s request there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Keswick Ridge United Church, on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at 2 pm with Pastor Bev Jewett officiating. A reception will be held at the church hall immediately following the service. Pallbearers for the service will be Lance Jones, Charlie Hawkins, Larry Jewett, Rodney Sharpe, Lawrence Shepard and David Shepard; Honourary Pallbearers are Roderick Nolan, Robert Sloat, Ronald Edmondson, Glyn Norman, Glen Pye and Ralph Stephenson. Interment will take place in the Burtts Corner Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and for those who wish, a donation to the Burtts Corner Community Cemetery Fund would be appreciated by the family. Donors may also contribute to a charity of their choice.
