Obituary of John Campbell

The death of John Clifford Campbell occurred on Saturday, October 06, 2012. Clifford was born at Ripples on December 27, 1915, the son of the late John R and Lilla Bell Young. He attended Ripples School until the age of 14 when he enrolled at Mount Allison Academy in the fall of 1930. In the spring of 1933 he earned a matriculation certificate having completed grade 11. He worked at Coburn Lumber Co. Ltd. and earned his Lumber Scaler’s License. In 1941 he enrolled at Fredericton Business College. After completion of that course he worked as a bookkeeper for MacFarlane Motors Ltd. Later he pursued a career in sales, living in Bathurst until 1955 when he returned to Fredericton. He entered the life insurance industry in 1962, later adding general insurance, until he retired. After retirement he wrote several books based on his memories of life as he knew it when he was growing up. Clifford is survived by, three children, Richard of Toronto, Steven “Randy” of Fredericton and daughter, Heather of Sarnia; two sisters, Elizabeth Sewell of Fredericton and Rhoda Holliday of Regina; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Porter) Campbell; sister, Reva Larlee and brother, Reid Campbell. He was and avid hunter and fisherman until his advanced years slowed him so he could not participate at them anymore. Clifford was a 70 year member of the Knights of Pythias and a staunch supporter of the Conservative Party. There will be no visitation. After cremation, burial will take place at Ripples Community Cemetery on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 11 am with Reverend Clair Mullen officiating.
