Obituary of Donald Keith

It is with great sadness that the family of Donald S. Keith announce his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton on August 8, 2011. Born in Hartland on August 21, 1928, Don is the son of the late Kenneth W. Keith and the late Elsa Maude Sipprelle. Besides his parents he was pre deceased by his older sister Dorothy Mcleod and his younger brother Kenneth Keith. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Jane (Pond) Keith, his seven children; Donald H. Keith (Janice) of Edmonton, Alberta, Judy Loukes (David) of Fredericton, Patsy MacFarlane of Moncton, Gregory Keith (Jane) of Sussex, Peter Keith (Sharlene) of Fredericton, Elsa Holland (Jerry) of Yoho, Kenneth Keith (Colette) of Saint John, fifteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Don is a three time graduate of the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry, Bachelor Education, and Masters of Education. Don began his career as a Forester working for Irving and retired as a Teacher. Besides his love and passion for his family and friends he had a love of music, adventure, being actively involved in his community and a keen interest in Science. Over the years he was a member of several bands including the Fredericton Marching Band and Nick’s Dixies. He also was an active member in the Fredericton Golden Club and actively supported many local charities. His free spirit and love of adventure took him to such places as a trip across the Sahara Desert, the mountains of Haiti to witness voodoo rites, a humanitarian project in Guatemala and many more. His keen interest in Science resulted in a last request that his body be donated to the Faculty of Medicine of Dalhousie University. Don was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. There will be no visitation by request, a Celebration of Don’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 2 pm from the Atrium at the Student Union Building from the University of New Brunswick. For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Don, the family has suggested the Fredericton Food Bank, Liberty Lane Inc. or a charity of the donor’s choice.
