Obituary of Hazel Fowler

The passing of Hazel Mary (Bransfield) Fowler, of Bloomfield Ridge, NB, wife of the late Dick Fowler occurred on Friday, June 17, 2011. Born in Escuminac, NB on December 26, 1935, Hazel was the daughter of the late Harvey and Molly (Jimmo) Bransfield. She was a devoted educator and after Teacher’s College began teaching in Holtville, NB where she met her husband of 55 years. Hazel believed in lifelong learning and returned to university and received her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from St. Thomas University. Hazel taught at Upper Miramichi Regional High School until she retired in 1991. Hazel was a devoted Catholic and spent many hours volunteering with the Altar Society and Parish Council of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church. Hazel also enjoyed the lively game of politics and her work will be greatly missed by the local Liberal women, as well as local Liberal provincial and federal parties. Hazel volunteered with Meals on Wheels and supported the greater community of Upper Miramichi in any and all ways. Hazel is survived by two sons, Richard “Rick” Fowler (Theresa) of Presque Isle, ME and Ronald Fowler of Fredericton, NB; one daughter, Lorraine Fowler (Chris Hawkes) of Saskatoon, SK; five granddaughters, Megan, Mallory, Madison, Marissa and Mirabelle; sisters Inez (Gordon) Sturgeon, Kay (John) Ryan, Betty Savoie, and Nina White and one brother Claude (Kathy) Bransfield and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was predeceased by her brother Earl Bransfield and sister Vera Hay. Visitation will take place at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, New Bandon, NB on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church, Boiestown, NB on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 11 am with Father Joseph Okoko as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joachim’s Church Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Kidney Foundation, St. Joachim’s Alter Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
