Obituary of Sarah Dick

It is with great sadness that the family of Sarah Ann Dick announces her death on June 5, 2011. Sally, as she was known to her family and friends, was the wife of J. Clarke Dick of Fredericton. Sally was born in Benacadie West, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on February 24, 1923. This was a place that she adored. She moved to New Brunswick to work at the cotton mill in Milltown and this is where she met and married her husband in 1948. It would be the start of a wonderful life together. She was a devoted wife and mother from then on, always gentle, loving and kind. Sally, Clarke and the children returned to Cape Breton every summer to spend vacation time with the people who meant so much to her. There was nothing more wonderful to Sally than a walk on Piper’s Cove beach, a good cup of tea and a laugh shared with her family. Her faith was also very important to her. She attended St. Anthony’s Church in Fredericton until she was no longer able. She is survived by her wonderful husband of 62 years, Clarke, as well as four sons and one daughter. They are; Bob Dick, Brian (Donna) Dick, David (Maureen) Dick, Roger (Mary Leo) Dick and Anne Marie (Patrick) Rogers. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren; Michael, Josh, Adam, Mathew, Geoffrey, Sarah, Kevin, Angela, Samantha and Emily, her great-grandchildren; Natasha, Thomas and James. As well, she is survived by two sisters, Betty MacNeil (Toronto) and Kitty MacNeil (Sudbury). In addition to these are some other people who held a special place in her heart, Jane Dick (daughter-in-law) and her many nieces and nephews in particular, Elizabeth, Murdock, Darlene, Roddy, and Cathy. She is predeceased by her parents, Roderick and Margaret MacNeil; her brothers, Michael, John, Joe and Angus, her sisters Mary and Kathleen and a niece, Brenda. There will be no visitation by request of the family. A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Church on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 11am with Father Monte Peters as celebrant. Interment will take place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Alzheimer Society or any charity of the donor’s choice.
