Obituary of Ruth Haney
It is with loving memories and heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Jean Haney (nee Thorne) on Saturday, July 16, 2011 in Calgary, AB. She will be forever remembered by her five children, Bob (Jane) of Calgary, AB; David (Brenda) of Fredericton, NB; Cheryl of Toronto, ON; Janice (Gordon) Miller of Calgary, AB; and Darlene (Rick) Tucker of Fredericton, NB; her grandchildren Erin (Ian) Berg and Evan Haney; Christine (Rick) Makowichuk and Elizabeth Haney; Katelyn (Doug) Reid, Kyle and Eric Miller; Richard and Rebecca Tucker; her great grandchildren Felicity Berg and Benjamin Reid; and her sister, Doris (Ron) Marshall and family. She was born May 14, 1921 in Saint John, NB to parents Ethel and Albert Thorne. Upon high school graduation, she trained as a Certified Pharmaceutical Clerk at Dalhousie University and worked in Saint John. She then married Rev. W. Floyd Haney in 1945. In her years as a pastor’s wife, many were touched by her care and friendship—her generosity was appreciated by so many! In the 1970s, she returned to work as a Pharmacy Clerk which she continued until 1993. Three years after her husband’s death in 1994, she moved to Calgary to be close to family already living there. Family was very important to her; her love for each one was boundless. Family gatherings were a source of great joy and special memories. Most important to Ruth was her walk with God, her deep faith and her commitment to prayer. A memorial service will be held at the McInnis and Holloway Crowfoot Chapel, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary AB on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 2:00 PM. A graveside committal service will occur in New Brunswick at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded to either www.mhfh.com (Calgary) or www.yorkfh.com (Fredericton). If so desired, memorial donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse International or The Peoples Church in Toronto, ON.
