Obituary of Ruth Pond

The passing of Ruth Elizabeth (Murch) (Timmins) Pond of Fredericton, NB, wife of Reginald Pond occurred on Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Mountainside Lodge, Islandview, NB. Born on June 28, 1922 in Mactaquac, NB, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Ebbett) Murch. Ruth was a retired teacher at Keswick Ridge Elementary School, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Keswick Ridge United Church, Past Member of the Keswick Ridge Women’s Institute and the United Church Women, New Brunswick Society of Retired Teachers (NBSRT) and Town and Country Machine Knitting Club. Ruth has past involvement with the Keswick Exchange and was Co-Author of two local histories “Looking Back at Mactaquac” and “History of Keswick Ridge United Church”. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Gail (Ralph) Stephenson; sons, John Timmins of Boundary Creek, NB and Peter Timmins of Keswick Ridge, NB; step children, Sheila (William “Bill” ) Staples of Fredericton, NB, Ronald (Marlene) Pond of Douglas, NB, Elaine LaPointe of Fredericton, NB and Eleanor (Kevin) Curtis of Douglas, NB; four grandchildren, Jonathan (Kim) Stephenson, Sarah-Jane (Jeffrey) Gilliss, Barbara and Dianne Timmins; two great grandchildren, Britttany and Jacob Gilliss; several step grandchildren; brothers, Joseph “Joe” (Mary) Murch of Fredericton, NB and David Murch of Surrey, BC; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and first husband, Owen Timmins, she was predeceased by her infant grandson, Gary Stephenson; brothers, John and Ashley Murch and sisters-in-law, Barbara, Emily and Audrey Murch. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Monday, July 11, 2011 from 11:00 am until service time at 1 pm with Rev. Merrill Slipp officiating. Interment will take place in Pickard Merrithew Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Keswick Ridge United Church Memorial Fund or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
