Obituary of Theresa Henry

Theresa Henry Fredericton NB July 27 1932 - October 19, 2011 Our family is saddened to announce Theresa's death following a brief illness from both a stroke and an aggressive form of ALS. To the very end she kept her humour and a strong resolve to keep her family "on track". Her small room in the ICU was filled with family and close friends these past few days- each of us having that amazing chance to tell her how much we loved her and to share with each other stories and memories that will live on well after her death- and she in turn told us of her love for us in equal regard. Theresa left each of us with specific life directives- put family and friends ahead of all else- don't take life too seriously- and for God's sake Giles buy the lotto tickets! Theresa was born in Bathurst and with exception of a short stint in Montreal she spent her single years there until she met her husband Giles. For better and for worse they've been together for 56 1/2 years- and raised an eccentric family: Blair of Toronto; Diane (Michael) Saunders of Philadelphia; Susan (Andy) MacTavish of Fredericton, NB; and Shawn of Stoney Creek, ON. Theresa had a special relationship with her brothers Pat (Claudia) Chiasson of Pickering ON and Leo Chiasson of Dartmouth NS, along with her nieces Patsy and Ann and great-niece Leijsa. Calling her Theresa feels strange to most of her family- she's always been known as Nana, Grammy, and Gran. These were the words used to describe her favorite role by her grandchildren: Lindsay, Justin, Chris, Katie and Charles, and her great grandchildren: Jacob, Emma, MacKenzie and Jordyn. Mom's favorite pastimes were shopping (without the buying), wine tasting (without the grape crushing), playing cards (especially when the Gals beat the Guys), and always, always, always having company drop by. The family want to express their special thanks to her "angels" on 4 Northwest, 3 Northeast and the ICU of the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital- you showed her and us a special type of kindness that makes the hardships of illness a little easier to bear. You made a tremendous difference in our journey. Mom's faith was important to her and a special memorial mass is planned at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 10 am with Father Monte Peters and Father Jennings co-officiating. Following the mass, interment will take place at St. Anthony’s Cemetery with a reception at the Church to follow. For those who wish, remembrances made to the ALS Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick would be appreciated by the family. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com She will be missed but not forgotten by all who knew her and were fortunate to call her a friend.
