Obituary of John Jones
The passing of John Alan Jones of Fredericton, NB, husband of Joyce (Dorcas) Jones occurred on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on January 15, 1932 in London, England, he was the son of the late John “Jack” Albert and Ethel May “Jane” (Theed) Jones. On August 10, 1949, at the age of seventeen, John joined the British Royal Navy where he proudly served his country. On September 24, 1965, John and his young family immigrated to Canada and settled in Fredericton. Throughout his life, John enjoyed his chosen profession as a self-employed carpenter and was a master of his craft. John loved playing crib, gardening and watching English soccer matches. John was past president of the Nashwaaksis Lions Club, the Royal Canadian Legion and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughters, Pauline Jones (Jean-Guy) and Elizabeth Jones (Bill) all of Fredericton, NB; sons, Alan Jones (Vicki) of Scotch Lake, NB, Peter Jones (Jeannie) of Fredericton, NB and Ian Jones (Carol) of Hinton, AB; grandchildren, Kerry, Kelsey, Rachel, Mark, Rebecca, Jessica, William and Jonathan; and great grandchildren, Kason, Kassidy, Nevaeh, Jaylynn, Skylar, Lexi, Donyea and Emma as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his first wife and mother of his children, Ida Anne (Spong) Jones originally of Portsmouth, England, he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kelly of Fredericton, great granddaughter, Zoe of Fredericton, sister, Brenda of England and brothers, Frank of Australia and Keith of England.
The family would like to thank Dr. Beland, Dr. Patrick, Dr. Raza, Dr. Broad, Dr. Swan, Dr. Gowan and all the wonderful staff of the Oncology Departments at the DECH and the Saint John Regional Hospital, Extra-Mural, Emergency Room, Ambulance Services and Social Workers as well as the outstanding care John received at the Palliative Care Unit. Many, many thanks to all those who were involved in his care.
Special thanks goes to longtime friends, Derek Kirby, Frank O'Donnell and Pauline Groves and his many friends and neighbours who supported him during his illness. The family also wishes to express its appreciation to his sister in-law, Carol and Bernie Giles who recently came from England to visit John.
