Obituary of Doris MacFarlane
With great sadness we announce the passing of Doris Weada MacFarlane of Fredericton, NB, formerly of Nashwaak Bridge, NB, after a brief illness, wife of the late Perley MacFarlane on Friday, November 26, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born on October 11, 1917 in Pinder, NB, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Laura (Marney) Graham. Doris was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her family on the homestead in Nashwaak Bridge. She was a former member of St. Luke’s United Church, Nashwaak Bridge, NB, where she was a Life Member and former Secretary-Treasurer of the St. Luke’s United Church Women; she was also a choir member; after moving to Fredericton she became a member of the Nashwaaksis United Church. After retirement Doris and Perley enjoyed some winters in Florida, travelled on bus tours that took them across Canada and the British Isles, they also enjoyed family camping trips. Doris enjoyed social activities, outings and fellowship with friends and family and was an active member of the Johnson Avenue Seniors Citizen Club.
Doris is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Pauline Ashfield and husband, Leslie; son, Fred MacFarlane and wife, Daisy; all of Fredericton, NB; six grandchildren, Jennifer Elliott (Paul), Deanna Stewart (Doug), Joanne McCarthy (Stephen), Heather Savoie (Albert), Angela Hunter (Kenney) and Brian Ashfield (Kelly); twelve great grandchildren, Alysha, Kathleen and Robert Elliott, Alexander and Nicole Stewart, Maggie Jo and Scott McCarthy, Noah Savoie, Jessica Hunter, Grace, Jakob and Kaleb Ashfield; sisters, Geraldine Doherty, Shirley Estey, Winzora Swain (Donald), Wilza Abernethy (Osborne), Lou Cummings (Malcolm), Donna Kupkee (Robert) and Darlene Hughson (Allan) all of Fredericton, NB; brothers, Arnold Graham of Nackawic, NB and Ardean Graham (Darlene) of Fredericton, NB; several sisters and brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Doris was predeceased by her sister, Muriel Blaney and brother, Dawn Graham.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Monday, November 29, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Nashwaaksis United Church on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 1 pm with Rev. Franklin Curtis and Rev. Gil MacKenzie officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in Nashwaak Bridge Cemetery.
