Obituary of Evelyn Estey

The passing of Evelyn Marguerite (Higgs) Estey, wife of the late Arnold Frank Estey, of Fredericton, NB, occurred on December 6, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on February 17, 1924 in Economy, NS, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Isabel (Marsh) Higgs. Evelyn was a Registered Nurse for 33 years. She was affiliated with Nashwaaksis United Church, was a member of the Osteoporosis Society, volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society and was very active with the Fredericton Ostomy Association. Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Nancy Roach (Hector) of Fredericton and Wendy Duplessis (Nevin) of Salem Oregon; grandson, William Reynolds (Joanne); granddaughters, Sarah Reynolds (Charlie), Emily (James), Jessica (Ben) and Erin Duplessis (Jared); great grandchildren, Maia, Peter, Zachary, Sebastien, Brady, Samantha, Weston and Kassidy; sisters, Edna Drew of Fredericton, Bertha Brown of Connecticut, Myrna Shirley of Truro, NS; sister-in-law, Joyce Higgs of Daytona Beach; many nieces and nephews; dear friend, Jackie Chapman. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Edith; brothers, Vernon and Leonard; sister-in-law, Phyllis Mills (Neil). Evelyn was known for her spirit, her generosity and her desire to help others. She was a role model and inspiration to her family and to all who knew her. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, December 9, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held from Nashwaaksis United Church on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 2 pm with Rev. Franklin Curtis officiating. Interment will take place at Douglas Rural Cemetery, Fredericton, NB. For those who wish, remembrances made to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
