Obituary of Thomas MacLeod

The passing of Thomas “Tom’ Gordon MacLeod of Fredericton, NB, husband of J. Eleanor (Coffin) MacLeod, occurred on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on February 12, 1935 in New Glasgow, NS, he was the son of the late Thomas Gordon and Elizabeth “Beth” (Cameron) MacLeod. Tom was employed with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce for almost 20 years; then he went to work for Armstrongs Funeral Home, Petticotiac, NB and Mattatalls, Truro, NS, for the next eight years. Tom finalized his dream by establishing York Funeral Home Ltd. in 1979. Tom was a member of Nashwaaksis United Church; Past President of Nashwaaksis Lions Club and Past President of the New Brunswick Funeral Directors and Embalmers’ Association. Tom enjoyed camping, oil painting and woodworking. He loved and was very proud of his family and especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his two sons, James MacLeod (Bonnie) of Douglas, NB and Scott MacLeod of Fredericton, NB; two daughters, Lorraine Corey (David) of New Zion, NB and Lynne Erickson (Carl) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Monica, Melissa, Tommy, Kayla, Nixon, Dougie, Harmony, Jodie (Dustin), Kelsey, Greg, Travis and Conor; one great granddaughter, Ava; sister, Bernice “Bunny” Gourley of Toronto, ON; brother, Sandy MacLeod (Naomi) of Fairview, AB and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by his son, Thomas Gordon MacLeod (1974); granddaughter, Ericka Erickson; aunt, Marion Stevenson and very close uncle, Albert MacLeod. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Nashwaaksis United Church on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 2 pm with Rev. Mary Tingley and Rev. Gil MacKenzie officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be Ira Corkum, Junior Harding, Clair Hawkins, Martin Fullarton, Dr. Brian McKinnon and Bill Randall; Honourary Pallbearers will be George Fawcett, Ron Evans, Frank Bezanson, Glenwood Dorcas, Walter Randall, Brent Buchanan, Don Stevenson, Billy Scott, Burchill MacQuarrie, Royce VanHorne and Fenton Doak. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery in the spring.
