Obituary of Dow Lyons

The passing of Dow Shirley Lyons occurred on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the Central NB Nursing Home. Born in Carroll’s Crossing on April 19, 1914, he was the son of the late William Hazen Lyons and Charlotte Lottie (Amos) Lyons. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Dow joined the Military and served with the North Shore Regiment in England and Continental Europe during World War II. He received the Defense Medal, the Canadian Service Medal, the Germany and France Stars and the Voluntary Service Medal. Upon his return from World War II, he was employed with the Dept. of Fisheries until his retirement. He was a member of Branch # 23, Royal Canadian Legion, Doaktown, NB and a member of St. John’s Anglican Church. Dow enjoyed outdoor life, he loved to fish and hunt. Dow is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Gladys Alberta (O’Donnell) Lyons, brothers, John “Jack” and E. Bert Lyons; sisters, Annie Storey, Pearl Smith, Violet Parker and Edith Sache; several nieces and nephews. As per Dow’s request and pre-arranged funeral, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 7, 2011 at 1 pm from Miramichi Valley Funeral Home Chapel with Father Andrew Fraser. The legion will hold a tribute service prior to the Memorial Service. Interment will take place in St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Carroll’s Crossing at a later date. No flowers by request, donations to the Anglican Parish of Ludlow and Blissfield, 323 Main St., Doaktown, NB, E9C 1E1 would be appreciated.
