Obituary of Claude Palmer
The passing of Claude Leonard Palmer, beloved husband of the late Claretta “Clara” (Clowater) Palmer, of Boiestown, NB, occurred on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on June 7, 1920 in Avery’s Portage (Astle), NB he was a son of the late Robert “Bob” and Daisy Palmer.
Claude was deeply loved and will be forever missed by daughter, Rev. Claudia Kitson (Fred) of Argyle Shore, PE; son, Paul Palmer (Celeste) of Boiestown, NB; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and beloved wife of 67 years, Claude was predeceased by his siblings Willard, Evelyn, Robin, Lorraine and Gerald.
Claude was a Corporal in the Royal Canadian Ordinance Core during World War II, serving in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. His career as a “Railroad Man” entailed much travel over the years covering Astle, Boiestown, McGivney, Maple Grove, Queenstown, Napadogan and North Branch, west of Moncton. Above all he was a man of deep faith in God, guided by the spirit.
Claude’s favorite hobby was music; playing 13 different instruments, the organ in Astle United Church, writing songs for special occasions, singing at church, community events, seniors groups and nursing homes.
Claude and Clara were a team. Together they were very active in St. John Ambulance, Boiestown and in the Boiestown United Church where they were members. He was also a member of the Landmark Lodge #51 F.&A.M. Boiestown and Normandy Branch #78 Royal Canadian Legion.
Visitation will take place at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, 7681 Route 8, New Bandon, NB on Wednesday, March, 23, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Legion Tribute Service will take place on Wednesday evening at 6:15pm. A Masonic Tribute Service will take place on Wednesday evening at 6:45pm. A Funeral Service will take place from Miramichi Valley Funeral Home on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 2 pm with Rev. Dr. Beverly Daley officiating. Interment will take place in Astle Community Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the Boiestown United Church, Canadian Diabetes Association … New Brunswick Division or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
