Obituary of Bertha Hayes

It is with love that the family of Bertha Evans (Saunders) Hayes, formerly of Tay Creek, lately of Nashwaak Villa, announces her passing at the Nashwaak Villa on February 3, 2019. She was born in Woodlands, NB on April 18, 1918 and was married to the late Harold V Hayes of Tay Creek. She was the last surviving member of the Charles and Hepsybeth (Evans) Saunders family, which included seven sisters, Annie Belle, Rachel, Jennie, Hildred, Pearl, Blanch, and Faye; three brothers, Eldon, Earl and James. Bertha and three of her sisters surpassed their 100th birthdays. She was also predeceased by son-in-law Barrie Tomilson. Bertha is survived by her four children, Dolly Tomilson (late Barrie), Reg (Shirley) Hayes, Brenda (Allison) Carlisle and Wayne (Karen) Hayes; ten grandchildren, Roxanne (Kevin) Burdett, Kendall (Adrienne) Tomilson, Trevor (Stephanie) Tomilson, Troy (Cynthia) Hayes, Jeffrey Hayes, Sheri Vidal, Holly (Mark) Moffitt, Tara (Peter) Lach, Dianne (Scott) Sprott, and Michael Hayes, and seventeen great-grandchildren. Bertha spent her married life as a home-maker, and along with her husband, co-owned Hayes Store from 1962-1977. Bertha's love for her family and her interest in knitting and gardening kept her young and enjoying life. She was well known as a great cook. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Tay Creek, NB. The family is grateful for the wonderful care received from her homecare workers and the staff and volunteers of Nashwaak Villa. Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, February 8, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at St Theresa's Church on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 11:00 am with Father Martin Arputhum officiating. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Tay Creek, NB at a later date.
