Obituary of Betty Bliss
Betty Jean (Swallow) Bliss peacefully passed away on December 27, 2018 at Hospice Fredericton after a four-year battle with cancer. She was born in Bridgewater, N.S. on September 23, 1948 and grew up in Falkland Ridge, N.S. before moving to Saint John, N.B. where she met her loving husband, Barclay. Betty began her career as a certified hair stylist in Saint John until she and Barclay moved to Fredericton. In Fredericton, she worked at Dominion Store, Wigwell, Lawton’s, Reitman’s and Super Store. She loved to cook for friends and family, having many gatherings at home. Always making a birthday cake for that special someone. She enjoyed being outside gardening, camping, walking, reading with her cat Lois, and hand feeding her chickadees who nested in a birdhouse on her front veranda.
Loving mother, devoted wife, loyal friend, caring sister does not begin to describe the incredible person our beautiful Betty was. She will be missed dearly. She is survived by her husband Barclay, her daughters Vickie MacKay (Joe) and Michelle Bowes (Kevin), her sister June Massey, her brother Fred Swallow (Lynn), her step-sisters Wanda Robertson (Rob) and Tina Helpard (Rod), and sister-in-laws Arleigh McDevitt and Judy Sultan, along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Howard Swallow, mother Marjorie Corkum, step father Harold Corkum and step-sister Sandy.
In keeping with Betty’s wishes there will be no services at this time. Special thanks to the Oncology Department at D.E.C.H., Oncology (Radiation) at S.J.R.H., and Dr. Jennifer Gillis-Doyle, and the nurses and doctors at Hospice Fredericton. For those who wish, donations may be made to Hospice Fredericton or the charity of your choice. Personal condolences maybe offered through www.yorkfh.com
