Life Legacy The passing of Douglas “Doug” David Hildebrand of Fredericton, NB, husband of Laura “Irene” (Jewett) Hildebrand occurred on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Windsor Court Retirement Residence. Born on July 8, 1928 in Birdton, NB, he was the son of the late John and Beatrice (Evans) Hildebrand. Doug was a Highway Foreman with the Department of Transportation, Fredericton for 29 years retiring in 1992. His hobbies included gardening, lumbering and travel. He was a member of the United Church, the Central New Brunswick Welsh Society, Fredericton Horseman’s Association, and Kingsley Silver Tops Senior Club. Early on in Nashwaaksis, he was community volunteer with a passion for minor hockey as a manager, then as the manager of the Sequoia Oldtimers hockey team. He was an avid sports fan enjoying hockey and baseball. He enjoyed the family cottage and friends at Yoho Lake and at the family home where friends, relatives and neighbours often could be found. When not at home he enjoyed the racetrack, attending fairs and exhibitions, music festivals, family events and country drives where he seemed to know everybody, and was an avid storeyteller. He was particularly proud of his children, and grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his wife of 65 years. In addition to his wife, Doug is survived by his sons, Fred Hildebrand (Debbie) of Halifax, NS, Steven Hildebrand (Theresa) of Moncton, NB and Ronald Hildebrand (Jennifer) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Erin Murray (Ben), Maggie Hildebrand, Kate Hildebrand and Emily Hildebrand; two great grandchildren, Addison and Beckett Murray; three sisters-in-law, Isabel Hildebrand, Judy Jewett and Carol Pond (Max); several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Marion Hildebrand, Ethel Davidson (Wesley) and Eliza Seymour (Stewart); brother, John Hildebrand and several other family members. Visitation will take at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at Nashwaaksis United Church on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 2 pm with Rev. Franklin Curtis officiating. Interment will take place in Douglas Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Central NB Welsh Society; Nashwaaksis United Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
