Obituary of Jacqueline Stewart

STEWART, JACQUELINE DELORES (ABERNETHY) The passing of Jacqueline Delores (Abernethy) Stewart, wife of the late Norman Stewart, occurred on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Shannex Nursing Home, Fredericton, NB. Born on May 31, 1925 in Durham Bridge, NB, she was a daughter of the late Merlin and Helen (Grant) Abernethy. Jacqueline worked for Gaiety Women’s and Boy’s Shop for 29 years. She retired from the Department of Health and Community Service, Medicare Department. She enjoyed her summers at the cottage on Grand Lake, working with her flowers, both at the cottage and at home. She also enjoyed many years wintering in Florida. Most important to Jackie were her two grandchildren whom she dearly loved. She is a past member of Gibson Memorial United Church Women. Jacqueline is survived by her son, Paul Stewart (Linda) of Fredericton, NB; two grandchildren, Marcie Wall (Patrick) of Fredericton, NB and Jeremy Stewart (Abby) of Halifax, NS; four great grandchildren, Noah Wall, Charlie Wall, Chase Stewart and Eva Stewart; brother, Carroll “Ted” Abernethy of Boiestown, NB; sister, Glenna Nevers (Robert) of Lakeland, FL; sister-in-law, Gertrude Abernethy of Bathurst, NB; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Audrey Abernethy and her brother, Vaughn Abernethy. Special thanks to the staff of Shannex, Frederick Hall and Dr. Katelyn Stymiest for their kindness and excellent care. Family would also like to thank special nieces, Bonnie and Carolyn for their care and support. A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 1 pm with Rev. Kelly Higgins officiating. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the IWK Children’s Hospital, the Children’s Wish Foundation or to the DVA.
