Obituary of Peter Grady
The passing of Peter Harold Grady, of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Caroline Rosina Annie (Durrant) Grady, occurred on October 25, 2017 at the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton. Born on November 23, 1922 in Edmonton, AB, he was a son of the late Harold and Florence (Wood) Grady. Peter was an officer with the Royal Canadian Navy and a veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict (HMCS Iroquois). He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Treasurer for the Malagash, NS Royal Canadian Legion, and a life member of the Wallace Area Development Association.
Among his WWII duties, he was on loan to the Royal Navy as the navigator on a two-person bi-plane (the Swordfish) flying off a small escort carrier (HMS Vindex) while protecting convoys to Murmansk, Russia. Peter was at the heart of the Cuban missile crisis while on the Admiral`s staff in Halifax. During the latter part of his service in the RCN he was captain of the frigate La Hulloise.
Peter is survived by his children, Peter Grady of Oshawa, ON, Chris Grady (Louise) Grady of Island View, NB, Jane Grady of Malagash, NS, and Rosina Louise Grady of London, England; his grandchildren, Geneviève, Jake, and Isaac Grady, Kathleen Grady-Thompson, and Morgan Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Bernard Grady.
There will be no services by request. The family is planning a memorial and a celebration of Peter’s and of his wife, Caroline’s life to be held in Malagash in early summer.
