Gillies, Gerald Roger Lincoln
The passing of Gerald Roger Lincoln Gillies of Fredericton, NB, husband of Rose Dinsmore-Gillies, occurred on Sunday September 3, 2017 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on May 28, 1949 in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Ralph and Gladys (Bates) Gillies. Gerald worked as a welder and hydraulic mechanic, he work for York Steel, Prentice Loaders, Hawkins Truck Mart, Canadian International Development Agency in Malawi, Africa, Irving Oil and Peterbilt New Brunswick. He was a past member of the Kinsmen Club and enjoyed woodworking, fishing especially with his grandsons, watching his grandsons play sports, and scouting moose with his dear friend Paul Banks.
In addition to his wife, Gerald is survived by his daughter, Bethany Gillies; grandsons, Oliver and Aaron Clowater; siblings, Randy Gillies (Kathy), Nancy Dickison, Mike Gillies, Glenna Gillies (Laurie Savage), Terry Gillies, Susan Gillies (Wayne Brown), and Jo-Anne Gillies (Danny King); uncle, Bert Bates (Winnie); several nieces and nephews. Beside his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Shirley MacBean, and siblings, Patsy Dutcher and Brian Gillies.
Visitation will take place on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 12 to 2 pm at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB, with the Memorial Service to immediately follow at 2 pm with Mr. Dwight McCoy officiating and Rev. Yvette Swan assisting. Interment will take place at the Scotch Lake Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Portage Atlantic or the Fredericton SPCA.
