I am extremely saddened by the news of Sharons death. She was a valuable member of the Maternity and Newborn Program Committee (MNCPC) of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
I just loved her genuine personality, straight forward manner and common sense. We all knew how much she cared for her patients, profession and family.
She will be missed by all who knew her.

I was honoured to serve on several College of Family Physician obstetrical committees with Sharon. Not only was she a dedicated to making sure the system worked for other family doctors who deliver babies but, more importantly also that it worked for moms and babies. Sharon was always the down-to-earth one in the room - often when we strayed from the important into the either the minute details or the ridiculous, Sharon was the one to bring us back on track with a shake of her head, a sigh and a muttered "Oh for Pete's sake". She will be missed. With my deepest condolences,
Dr Kate Miller, Guelph, ON

So sorry to hear about Dr. Northorp passing away. I was very saddened to hear this news. She was my doctor and a good friend since the 1980's. She always stopped to chat whenever I saw her. My friends would say, "that's your doctor?" I would reply, "yes, that's my doctor." I will always miss her.

Sharon was my doctor for some 30 years and brought my son into this world and saw us both through many issues. She liked to remind me that she wasn't much older than I was when I first started seeing her - when she first started practicing. She was a wonderful doctor and a lovely person. A huge loss for the medical community and Moncton in general. She will be missed. My deepest condolences to Sharon's family and friends.

Dr Northrop was my family doctor for my whole life so far (28 years). I remember going into her office and always being excited to play with the toys she had in the waiting room. In later years, she would always listen to what I had to say. Her responses were always kind and firm, never harsh. When she would come to our house for journal club (she and my mom were colleagues), she would always chat with me for a few minutes beforehand. I had mentioned once that I was a reader, and thereafter she would always talk about the books she was reading, and invite me over to read with her. I regret never taking her up on the offer. She will be sorely missed.

My deepest sympathies to Sharon's family and loved ones. I had the privilege to be Sharon's resident during her last year of practice. She was of the most knowledgable and hard-working physicians I've ever worked with. She put her patients above all. She was also an advocate for learners and genuinely showed interest in our personal lives outside of Medicine. She was a true role model of how to be a dedicated physician. She will be greatly missed.

I first met Sharon 30 years ago when she moved to Moncton. I know from speaking to her patients over the years that she was a greatly loved physician. I only knew her on a business basis and she always treated me well.
I spoke to many people the past couple of days about Sharon's passing and they were all shocked and saddened.
She will be well and long remembered.

Our condolences to Zella and Sharon's family. We were fortunate to have Sharon as our nearest neighbour for the past twenty years. We shared her love of both birds and cats. We had the pleasure of meeting Zella several times while she was house and cat-sitting. We appreciated Sharon's many generous trips to help the less fortunate in Cuba and her general love of nature. We will miss her.

Words cannot express how much I will miss my dear friend and colleague . She truly changed the world with her dedication to her patients and her profession. The impact of her actions will live far beyond her mortal life. Sharon was a force of nature. She was not afraid to speak up when things were unjust. She was generous and kind. She was a teacher , philosopher, and friend , and I will miss her dearly. My thoughts are with her family who she treasured most off all. I wish you peace

Dr. Northorp or Dr. Sharon as my children knew her even though they are both grown adults now,was an amazing doctor. It didn't matter what time of the day my children were born, she was there and back bright and early the next morning. Her teaching practice gave insight into what kind of woman she was. We where so happy for her when she was acknowledged by her peers for all of her contributions. It was not only her career that made her amazing but also all the great things she did with her family. She could never know how happy our family was to have known her as our physician but as a great human being. Our thoughts are with all of your family as go through this very difficult time. I was referred to Dr. Northorp for my pregnancies, so only started going to see her in 2012. Throughout these last few years I witnessed what an excellent physician is really like. Through my hardest loss, she was very compassionate and offered highly-skilled and thorough care. I am forever grateful for her careful insight into my situation.
Of all the stories she shared with me, I will always remember this one story about her dearly-loved family and their fun times together catching frogs! I pray that your memories of good times spent with her will help you through this most difficult time. Gone too soon.

To Dr. Northorps' family:
I did not know her personally, nor was I ever a patient of hers but...I need to tell this story!...I arrived at Shoppers Drug Mart in Riverview just before closing one night and there she was!...She had met a young couple with a sick child there and was writing them a prescription for their child. What doctor does that? Apparently she had done this before. Above and beyond the call of duty! From then on I looked at her with the utmost respect! I never forgot that and it was 20 years ago, at least!
