Obituary of Mary Currie
The passing of Mary Elva (Grant) Currie, of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Barry Currie, occurred peacefully on July 13, 2017 at York Care Centre. Born on September 15, 1933 in Moncton, NB, she was a daughter of the late Gordon Grant and Ferne (MacMullin) Grant growing up in Caverhill, NB and spending much time in Magaguadavic with friends and family. Marrying Barry in 1950, the next 20 years she resided in Mactaquac raising their family, moving to Fredericton in 1971.
Mary worked in various retail outlets over the years but her passion and heart lay with the many children that came through her doors of the Kookaburra Daycare and the hearing impaired students she worked with. There was never a child turned away and the little boy with the SpiderMan sneakers will always hold a special place in her heart. As the children grew up, Mary was always interested in what they were doing; their schooling and she looked forward to their visits. She was a member of Mactaquac Baptist Church and Grace Memorial Baptist Church, Fredericton, NB.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Sharon Idol (Lance) of Llano, TX, Joyce Currie of Fredericton, NB and Lorna Chapman of St. Albert, AB; one son, Vernon Currie (Colleen) of Powell River, BC; grandchildren, Jackson and Megan Idol, Erin and Ryan Currie, and Danielle Chapman (Josh Steep); great granddaughter, Ava Chapman; brother, Michael Grant of Oakville, ON; niece, Jennifer Grant and nephew, Stephen Grant.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T.
