Obituary of Helen Burgess
Life Legacy
The peaceful passing of Helen Barbara Burgess of Fredericton, NB and formerly of Saint John, NB occurred on Saturday, April 29, 2017 in her 95th year, at the York Care Centre. Born on March 6, 1923 in Oromocto, NB, Helen was the daughter of the late Hally and Edith (Donald) Kimball. Helen trained as a registered nurse at Saint John General Hospital School for Nurses and proudly worked in Montreal, Fredericton and Saint John. Always interested in caring for others, she volunteered at the Red Cross Blood Donor Clinics and the Saint John Food Bank for many years in her retirement. She will be remembered for her sense of humour, enjoyment of everyone around her, the multitude of mittens and socks knitted for anyone who wanted them and her passion for playing cards, especially Bridge. She was an exceptional partner and a formidable foe at the Bridge table.
Helen is survived by her only son, Richard “Dick” Burgess and his family, wife Pat and grandchildren, Kristin (Andrew Angus) and Karen; as well as great grandchildren, Isaac and Bronwyn Angus; several nieces and nephews. Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, George Kimball (Irene) and Donald Kimball (Edith); sisters, Doris Burge (George) and Mary “B” Bridges (Percy).
Visitation will take at St. John the Evangelist Church Hall, 75 Main Street on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 1-2 pm; followed by a Memorial Service at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Ranson officiating. Interment will take place in the St. John the Evangelist Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall. The family wish to sincerely thank all the staff at York Care Centre for their exemplary care given to Helen. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Shriners Hospital, York Care Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
