Obituary of Joan Deeley
The passing of Joan Deeley of Fredericton, NB, wife of Garry Deeley, occurred on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born on October 21, 1945 in Sussex, NB, she was the daughter of the late James and Sadie (Verrill) Landry.
Joan graduated from Fredericton High School and NB Teacher's College. She taught school in Maugerville and worked as a supply teacher in Stonewall, MB. She also worked at the Regent Street Children Daycare and was a member of the NB Diabetic Association. Joan was a friend to many including special friends, Bob and Opal Darrah, Doreen Fleet and Ethel York. Joan loved photography, was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing. She was a woman of strong Christian faith, a woman of prayer and daily Bible reading. Joan was raised in the Salvation Army Church where she served until 2000; she then became a member of Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church. Joan and Garry celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on November 10, 2016.
In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by her sons, Shawn Deeley (Jean) of Cole Harbour, NS and Mark Deeley (Stacie) of Tumbler Ridge, BC; beloved grandchildren, Ronan and Finn Deeley; brother, Allen Landry; sisters, Jean George and Margo Landry; sisters-in-law, Vivian Landry, Marlene Landry, Phyllis Landry and Marg Landry; brother-in-law, Bill George; several nieces and nephews; sweet canine friend, Fluffy, she enjoyed his visits while in the hospital. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Phillip and Henry Landry.
Visitation will take place at Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church, Fredericton, NB on Monday, March 13, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 2 pm with Pastor Normand McDonald, Rev. Peter Thomas and Rev. Ralph Irving officiating. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Mental Health Association, Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society or donor’s choice.
