A year later now I have only just found out of the passing of your husband, father and loved one. I am a retired teacher and a once a week hospital volunteer at DECH typically Saturdays where being in ER doing ordinary tasks there would often see your loved one there. I was not one to have conversations with the workers including Doctors though noticed he was often there, Professional and diligent in his duties as one would expect in the capacity of his responsibilities. So sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Debbie Perry

My deepest condolences to Steve's family. I worked with him at OPH and LOVED his quiet wit and sarcasm and that slow smile of his. I always called him Eeyore because, well he reminded me of him. I also called him Muffin because the first time I called him that he looked baffled so of course I continued to call him that. He had so much compassion but tried to hide it with his gruffness God forbid anyone would think him soft! His bigger than life presence will be greatly missed at OPH, my heart goes out to you all. Sending healing thoughts and peace of mind &128591;&127995;

I feel for you now and in the coming days months and years, they say time is a healer I'm now at mile mark 21 years still healing. I didn't really know Dr. Smith, but I was struck by his generosity just a few months ago. I am a pharmacist and I called him to let him know that a patient he had seen at emerge could not afford the medication he prescribed. I asked him if he'd like to prescribe an alternative. He just said, "no, she needs it. Give it to her and I'll be down after my shift to pay for it." Lo and behold, a few hours later, he appeared at the counter to pay for her medicine along with his newspaper. He didn't make a big spectacle, nor did he want one. He just paid and went along his way.
A true act of kindness I'll never forget. Rest in Peace Dr. Smith.

I hope you found your peace, you have made such an incredible impression on my life...I am honored to have had the pleasure of working with you, seeing your compassion for others , your sense of humor, your love of music. Will miss your family stories, and the way you spoke of them with pride! <3
